In Finland, smoking is allowed in secular centres provided there is a separate smoking area with adequate ventilation. Also, the minimum age for buying cigarettes is 16 years.
From May 1, 2022, however, the packs and boxes of electronic substitutes in smoking should not be made by standardizing the logos for the Finnish market but should be contained in simply standard monochrome and unadorned packages.
The Ministry of Social Welfare and Health aims to achieve less urban and environmental pollution due to cigarettes and to reduce the response found among young people to smoking and the impact of its passive version. Merchants and retailers will have one year to sell the official standard products.
Finland is the second Scandinavian country to impose such a measure after Norway and the only one in the world to extend it to e-cigarettes, something that is still being debated by parliament in South Africa. Other European countries where it has spread from Australia are Great Britain, Ireland, France, Slovenia, Hungary, Belgium and the Netherlands, while it even exists in nearby European country Turkey.
