Partial decriminalization of cannabis was initially implemented in 4 of the 32 boroughs of Greater London, including Greenwich by the mayor of the British capital, Sadiq Khan, with a possible extension of the targets.
According to the reform decided from the beginning of the year, the Mayor, supporting the Labour Party, instructed not to arrest cannabis users and possessors by the police instead of paying a fine as in the case of deviation while driving and to enrol in educational programs detoxification from offering compromising solutions.
The opposition London’s mayor encounters from the ruling Conservative party expressed its disagreement with the decriminalisation of cannabis in parts of London by sending out an email to oppose the move and expose Sadiq Khan’s priorities and his trip to Los Angeles to visit cannabis plantations and factories in promoting what had been characterised as the legalisation of drugs.

” Sadiq Khan wants to legalize cannabis – and we’re the only ones stopping him. So will you chip in and stand with us?
While crime soars in London, the person responsible for policing is 5,000 miles away.
Today instead of focusing on the challenges facing our capital, London Mayor Sadiq Khan is visiting cannabis farms in Los Angeles.
And he’s using your money to set up a commission to legalize cannabis here.
So while parents are struggling to keep their kids safe and free from drugs, Sadiq Khan will make their jobs impossible.
Don’t you think London’s parents deserve better?
We will never allow Britain’s capital city to become a haven for drug dealers. So if you agree with us, then chip in today.
Stop Sadiq Khan’s plan to legalize drugs
London wasn’t always the high-crime and high-tax city it’s become. While Sadiq Khan has overseen record increases in crime – with offences rising by 11% in the last year alone, Boris Johnson cut crime by over a quarter while Mayor.
While murders in London are now at record levels, Boris Johnson cut the murder rate by over 30% as Mayor.
While Sadiq Khan has raised the Mayor’s council tax by nearly £ 400, Boris Johnson chose to cut it.
Communities deserve better than Khan’s dangerous plans.
So don’t let him get away with it.
Chip in today, and together we’ll stop Labour’s plans to legalize drugs.
Stop Sadiq Khan’s plan to legalize drugs
Rt Hon Oliver Dowden CBE MP
Yours sincerely,
Chairman of the Conservative Party
The mayor stressed that the pilot partial decriminalization applies only to cannabis and not to other related drugs in the same category and to minor offenses involving small quantities in a limited age limit of up to 24 years out of 18 after being criticized by both major Conservative and Labour opposition parties that have stated they do not intend to change the state’s official policy on the issue.
A spokesman for the city council said: “The mayor firmly believes that drug use and related crimes can be prevented without being considered unavoidable. That is why his approaches to addressing these issues are rooted in prevention and timely intervention. City Hall works closely with community groups across London, providing them with the resources they need to tackle poverty, alienation and lack of opportunities so that they can make a lasting difference in their area. The main focus of this work is to explore various ways in which young people can move away from low-level drug use by better informing about its harms, and the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime is actively involved in discussions about this plan. We know that we can never just stop coming out of the problem, so we continue to work on programs that provide support and education for young people, rather than just putting them in the criminal justice system – in order to prevent them permanently from drug use and crime “.
