“Tobacco 21” works fine on both sides of the smoking and health debate

Towards the end of 2019 US President Donald Trump who served until 2020 raised the minimum age requirement to buy tobacco to 21 in most US states at the federal level. Donald Trump’s policy is now avoiding the implementation of a generational tobacco purchase ban proposed in numerous US jurisdictions, whereby the legal age limit increases progressively as a variable ultimately eliminating smoking to the elderly and eventually to nobody still alive.

Another example of a place where this restrictive situation is avoided is Ireland, the very place where the very first anti-smoking policy of the indoor smoking ban originates from. The very first indoor smoking ban was enacted by the Republic of Ireland in 2004 and was imitated by Scotland, before what would be the “Scottish idea” was imitated and brought down to the whole country by the London government from where it spread to the rest of the world like a contagion and epidemic that is claimed by it to be smoking. The states that exist have adopted the opinion of the anti-smoking campaign and made it the opinion of the state prior to which the anti-smoking campaign was conducted by the pharmaceutical industry, assuming as their duty to protect the population from cancer caused by smoking.

The Public Health Tobacco Amendment Bill 2024 is currently undergoing parliament in Ireland and if approved will raise the minimum age requirement to buy tobacco to the age of self-guardianship of 21 from the age of legal responsibility of 18. Better to set the smoking age to 21 than increase the minimum age requirement by one year each year as a variable. If the same could happen in Great Britain, where politicians threaten people and their freedom to raise the legal age requirement by one year every year, there would be no other problem.

What the anti-smoking proponents will get from this is what they wanted instead of eliminating the percentage of smokers, and eliminating cigarettes from the face of the Earth, controlling the percentage of smokers according to what is necessary for society, and indeed for the rest of society except themselves. It is optimal not to eliminate cigarettes from the face of the Earth by applying the minimum age of 21 years allowed for the purchase of tobacco, which does not restrict freedom like the indoor smoking ban and the gradual ban on tobacco purchases by all.

Those who are 18, 19 and 20 will not miss anything from entering university or getting professionally accomplished before being allowed to smoke. Finding your aim in life and your independent financial means to smoke can might as well happen before you are permitted to do so and is much preferable. Anti-smoking proponents will have got what they wanted when only those who need to smoke would actually do so and most importantly would cease to restrict the freedom of the rest by supporting anti-smoking restrictions like the incremental tobacco purchase ban which is so imminently threatening the personal freedom of every citizen in the UK.

Effective control of the smoking rate against its minimisation happens without conducting extortion and pursuing its elimination but according to the needs of society and its individual members and provides the solution to the fanaticism that has been demonstrated by anti-smoking proponents and the state over the years.
