Taxes must be collected fairly like they are distributed

Dear Taxpayer Alliance,

As you may already know, the duty tax on tobacco is excessively high and incurs charges on consumers of tobacco products that they have not received in exchange for anything else: instead of receiving two packets of sticks for their value they pay for two and receive one or pay double the price of the value of the product in exchange for itself. The remaining 5 pounds from the 10 remain unused by circulating in the market on the coincidence of the product that was purchased instead of something else. The value of the product has not got the same height or cost to produce.

The excessive form of taxation directly affects certain groups of people and a fluctuating proportion of all and influences what the rest do with their money when it circulates because it is not done according to the correct measurement of value. It also disputes the principle of economy and of the interests owned by those groups it affects.

Fortunately, the budget for this year left tobacco and petrol prices, and those of goods that are taxed on duty unaffected from change, but for the next year prices have already risen and when tobacco prices are concerned those are unacceptable, unbearable, uneconomical, excessive and arbitrarily set and fluctuated.

These prices result in the loss of financial flexibility for the individual confronting them, the lack of their personal economy and the burden of the tax from which the rest as the general public benefit from.

Taxes must be collected fairly like they are distributed. Injustices performed when tax is collected are unjust and impermissible to encounter and violate the rights of those who are paying them.

To bring the example of somebody who gets paid for their work is inconceivable to equate to them doing more work to pay for their smoking than they do to perform the rest of their activities.

I strongly believe that action has to be taken on behalf of the taxpayer and our alliance to confront excessive taxation on duty. The issue has to be raised to the government that;

  1. Tobacco prices must freeze for a period of more than one year as in 2021 and this has to be done until they catch up with inflation. This is much lengthier to replace as a target than the government’s comparatively short-term smoke free plan.
  2. Potentially they have to drop to one of the previous levels.
  3. Less unhygienic cigarettes composed out of R&D (research and development) tobacco must cost less and be encouraged about their preference and wide circulation.
  4. The current taxation scheme for duty tax on tobacco has to be abolished and replaced according to reason.
  5. Allow ‘buy-one-get-one-free’ promotions for tobacco products and if not explain the reason why.

Thank you for your consideration.
