The following comment was posted on LinkedIn to Philip Morris to a lead speaker of their Technovation event, in response to the writing on the background poster which reads that “Our brand vision [is to] replace every cigarette for ALL adult smokers who don’t quit”, which paraphrased means forcing them to do so whether they accept or like it or whether not:
Those who smoke who cannot quit smoking because smoking alternatives do not provide them with an equal level of satisfaction as smoking, do not want to see smoking go or being unavailable to them. This category of smokers have to be taken into consideration as well.
Government plans to eradicate smoking are excessive, abusive towards many and insistently vague. They intend to take advantage of the existence of the law that prevents underage access to smoking to make it say what they want instead of what it should which is that underage teenagers and children cannot buy tobacco. Setting a variable age limit to annually adjust to increase itself is not aimed at preventing underage smoking and therefore has no further justification. And should not therefore exist or be negotiated. This is not being negotiated rather than being threatened.
Tobacco cigarettes must remain available to those who use them and tobacco is not a drug like the cannabis talked about for its legalisation, so how could you have legalised drugs available in the market while prohibiting the trade of tobacco cigarettes? Things that do not make good sense should not happen at all.
Cigarettes should remain available to those who are using them and as a matter of choice in terms of having options. Choice is a compulsory human right called the right to choice and selection. It must not be violated by forcing all those who smoke regardless of which person to switch to smoking alternatives.
If smoking were not to exist neither would its alternatives be in place. Every invention including the electronic cigarette and the conventional cigarette had to be invented. In fact, the conventional cigarette must be registered as a patent in the Americas, its place of invention, to prevent it from being mentioned by the law in a defamatory context.
