A Greek man had to leave the area of his hotel in Helsinki in order to have his coffee with a cigarette or two, like he says, but after a while upon the second cigarette he was having with his coffee, the coffee froze in the cold weather of -8 degrees Celsius (below zero) and it came out of the cup pulling it up with the spoon as a piece of ice! The following video has become viral. The man to which this happened is Costas Tsolias from Trikala, Greece. Costas Tsolias is saying, “Good morning, good morning. We have come out here to have a cigarette in the uncovered area of the hotel. As you can see, minus eight degrees. By the time we had the first cigarette and lit the second one up, here with the coffee, look what happened to us. The coffee is left frozen in my hand! We’ll go back inside, and we’ll drink another coffee – good morning, good morning, good morning”.
Costas Tsolias said in the above viral video that he will replace the iced coffee inside the hotel. Does this mean that he will be able to drink it while smoking? The answer may be not with more than a single cigarette. Another contradictory example that does not justify a smoking ban when there are no physical barriers to necessitate it. And when there are no physical barriers to justify a smoking ban, there should be no ban on smoking because man should follow nature.
A similar example to the above is what happens at work and the workplace. Employees who smoke do not have the opportunity to work at the same time as smoking which is imposed on them to occur separately in another place and therefore time, wasting worktime by taking it out to smoke, which due to the smoking ban artificially reduces the productivity of smokers and as a result they are less likely to be hired in the same job. This becomes a cause of inequalities and discrimination with unequal opportunities in the recruitment process. Employers’ evaluations of assessment carried out on smoking in relation to work defy their obligation to provide equal opportunities for everyone to be employed in the same job when negotiating the slightly reduced productivity of smokers who take breaks from work to smoke. This difference is not organic but artificially superimposed and is due to the smoking ban and the ban on smoking in the workplace. However, it has become a source of inequalities and discrimination resulting in unequal opportunities in the recruitment process for many jobs which is unacceptable to occur in contemporary society. It could be that this injustice was what the Irish or any other government was talking about when they were talking about banning smoking in the workplace. In fact, it is exactly what they are taking and accepting responsibility for when the Irish government banned smoking in the workplace in 2004 enforcing the world’s first smoking ban.
