It is widely known that Boris Johnson’s government that was elected in 2019 was overturned by 52 ministers and government member resignations that occurred over the Christopher Pincher scandal, after it was discovered that the Housing Minister (Christopher Pincher) had sexually abused other men and that it was known to Boris Johnson that it could happen when he was appointing him to the senior position of chief whip of the Conservative Party in 2019, after they were both elected to government. But of course, regarding those 52 ministers and government members, the position of Housing Minister is more senior than the position of chief whip, and what they most disagreed about was his participation in government.
Many may confuse the elected British government’s downfall with the party-gate scandal, according to which Boris Johnson and his cabinet should not have celebrated whatever they were celebrating privately in his house, but it was not that rather than the scandal concerning Chris Pincher that brought the government down and made the ministers and government members massively resign.
The ‘deep state’ according to Donald Trump’s description did not allow or did not like Chris Pincher scrapping outdoor terrace smoking bans during his tenure as Minister of Housing, when he took appropriate care of the whole antismoking lobby controlling what you can or cannot do in your own house when it comes to smoking within it, and whether you can smoke in the open air whilst seated outside a pub or a bar. But that is what Chris Pincher must better be remembered for, that we owe him part of our freedom, or all of our freedom given on what this depends or what is most vulnerable to, since Chris Pincher scrapped outdoor smoking bans in bar and pub terraces where there are outside tables and people sit outside to smoke, drink and eat.
The outdoor terrace smoking bans in question occurring during 2020-21 consisted of interrogating security personnel that was paid by the state to pose at the entrances outside shops usually in pairs to supervise the customers not to smoke outside of them, while they weren’t even employed by those shops but were disgracefully enforcing legal requirements by supervising people while they were living their lives. It was Chris Pincher’s achievement that this disgraceful situation did not resume after the China Virus and the reopening of venues. Because it is another thing to supervise that the law is being followed from police patrolling the streets and another different case to supervise that a specific item of legislation and not the law as a whole is followed by a particular group of individuals which is then called superintended surveillance and social supervision.
According to the government website, “The government will not ban outdoor smoking. Since the existing ban was introduced, businesses have invested heavily in their outdoor areas and banning outdoor smoking would lead to significant closures and job losses.” as mentioned in an article titled “New plans to ensure pubs, restaurants and cafes offer both smoking and non-smoking outdoor options” and that is because Chris Pincher said that “These changes will allow everyone to enjoy outdoor eating and drinking whether they smoke or not, with appropriate provisions made for non-smokers and smokers.” while he was Housing Minister and was reopening pubs after the China Virus.
As for Boris Johnson’s government, its fate became known with what happened afterwards as the same person’s scandal, while people like him are more competent in doing their job better by representing those who elected them than being in the position of the accused for a scandal consisting of an excuse from their private life. As for himself, since no new elections were called after his resignation, he is still the people’s choice after 2019 and hence the elected prime minister of the country who enjoys the trust of the people to run the government, and this will only change after the next election and not before it.
