The owner of electric cars Tesla and the social network Twitter Elon Musk gave an interview to Britain’s public television BBC. The BBC journalist who conducted the interview with Elon Musk said he asked him in a text message and in response he accepted and invited him to Twitter’s headquarters the same day in San Francisco where the BBC interview with Elon Musk took place.
Elon Musk is the second richest person in the world to buy Twitter, Inc. for $44 billion last October 2022 having filed his initial offer in April 2022. He told the BBC that it was not easy to run Twitter, and that potential mistakes were inevitable.
Justifying the mass layoffs of more than half of Twitter’s employees so far, numbering 6,000 in 2022 and 1500 in April this year, Elon Musk pointed out that it was not possible for his business to profit from the loss it was making when he bought it. He said that the balance of income and expenses was such that only 4 months of Twitter’s remaining life were given, and asked the BBC reporter what he would do in his place, who counter-suggested that he would give warnings of any dismissal. Elon Musk added that Twitter’s current profitability is on the surface.
Elon Musk said misinformation has been a feature of the BBC in the past, not just Twitter, and questioned who will judge when it appears. In response to a question on what he thinks of the ban of the Chinese application Tik-Tok for government officials and parliamentarians of many countries and the EU, with the justification of the collection of user data by the Chinese Communist Party, who would not need to ask permission to acquire them, Elon Musk has said that he is generally against bans although doing so favours the use of Twitter in place of Tik-Tok.
Many of Elon Musk’s responses to the BBC reporter were one-word or one-phrase, and the dialogue that took place was generally poor and sparse on the part of Elon Musk but not the BBC journalist who was apparently trying to communicate.
