Neither former President Rodrigo Duterte of the Philippines nor current President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ratified the law passed by the House of Representatives and the Senate of the Philippines in January 2022, and the law concerning vaping and the e-cig market eventually went into effect without his signature; overdue due to prolonged inactivity.
The President received numerous prompts and incentives to ratify or veto the new law that came into effect by delaying to take advantage or react, and the new law automatically came into effect on July 25 after being approved by parliament in January and is set to go into effect from today’s publication of in the Gazette of the Government of the Philippines which is prescribed within two weeks.
Within the Philippine Vaping and Electronic Alternatives to Smoking Act, their purchase is regulated by the Department of Trade and Industry with the assistance of the Philippine Food and Drug Administration which provides information and recommendations on the characteristics of the products. The limit of the nicotine content of liquid vaporizers is set at 6.5% of 65 mg/mL and the age limit for their purchase at 18 years.
The law was approved by the Senate by a vote of 19 to 2 and was considered by the President on June 24, 2022, while the deadline for its ratification by the President was for one month, with the result that it will come into force due to presidential inaction on July 25.
